From your experience, if you were to describe this course to another, what would you tell them is the topic of the course, its objectives, things they might learn, and key takeaways.
This course offered the ability to obtain an understanding of the history of Administrative Theories and how they apply to our current Bureaucracy. We analyze how these theories have impacted the role and function of the government and how they correlate to affect Public Administration today.
How does the instruction you received in this course relate to the Core Competencies of the MPA program work, and how can they be applied to what you are doing in public administration or will be doing?
The knowledge gained from this course refined my critical thinking skills as I sought to understand and apply the history of administrative theory to present-day agency purposes and functions. Good leadership involves understanding the foundations of Public Administration to improve the processes and programs in my area of government work.
How did this course relate to other courses you have taken in the program? Explain
There was considerable overlap between administrative theory and administrative law. The social climate and historical context affects politics, lawmaking, and policy created by the various branches of government. The interpretation of laws by the judicial branch often has a correlation to administrative theory.
Reflect and describe key elements of this course that were particularly meaningful to you and how you will apply them to your life, profession, or other areas.
Understanding administrative theory helps us understand the various ideologies people hold in regard to the proper role of government. History, as well as the present, creates understanding about where we are now and where the future might be for government agencies. While there may be conflict and disagreements, when we can understand and respect others' values, we can find common ground, create compromise, and move forward to build a better society.

This paper was particularly enjoyable to write as we were able to apply what we were studying directly to our career.
Group Presentation and Postmodern Theory
The group project was a wonderful opportunity to interact with classmates and discuss the material we were studying. Creating a presentation to share definitely drove the concepts home, especially when it came to the sometimes confusing Postmodern theories of administration.
